mbuisman79 (134), Amsterdam, Netherlands May 23, 2009 Updated: Oct 25, 2009Now finally in 33c bottles. Nice uneven head and a good aroma. Not as good as the blond but I’m happy to see the small size bottles Immy (1912), Virginia Beach, Virginia, USA May 13, 2009 Morgan’s tasting, 07MAR09. 750ml bottle. Brown with a beige head. Yeasty nose, dark fruits, raisin and chocolate. Chocolate flavors, nuts and more dark fruits. Good! Skeegle (476), Maryland, USA May 4, 2009 Updated: May 7, 2009Nose of thick spices and sugar cane and that wonderfully dry and spritey Achouffe yeast. Flavor is lots of oranges drowned out by sugar and spice. Tastes like a standard Belgian strong. Very nice ale, another good one from Achouffe. judasbeer (230), Budapest, Hungary Apr 25, 2009 Dark amber, orange color with rocky, well-lacing, dense off-white head. Spicy coriander aroma at the first nose. After conditioning becomes more fruity with prunes, chestnut and liquorice feel.
The flavor is full of fruits. Brown sugar candy, orange peels, coriander and some caramel malty edge. The aftertaste is spicy with full of coriander and some liquorice with a slight fruity tartness. Very easy bodied, almost watery texture with dense carbonation.
satan165 (541), River Grove, Illinois, USA Apr 18, 2009 pours ultra dark ruby with excellent carb, large but airy head. yeast and even some hops come out in the aroma, no sticky malt here. a taste reveals some very dark fruits and belgian spice. alcohol is buried but present, yet not offensive, it marries well with the whole. mouthfeel is just the beginnings of syrupy. despite its dark color, dark undertones in the flavor and the mouthfeel, this is surprisingly refreshing! the carb serves well to keep it lightened and fresh. "a great beer" -- a statement coming from a rater thoroughly unimpressed with this style as a whole; this is a wonderful departure. johndoughty (2150), cheslyn hay, West Midlands, England Apr 18, 2009 Bottle. Brown and poured with a full head.Strong firm body with plenty of sweetness although some bitterness does creep in.A interesting drink. greig (169), Hamilton, New Zealand Apr 10, 2009 A nice Belgian twist on the Scotch Ale. Woody flavours are a nice aspect to this beer, and the cookie notes make it very moreish. Hides its alcohol very well. A little thin in the mouth and over spritzy. snakeoilpete (324), Seattle, Washington, USA Apr 8, 2009 On tap at Naked City. Looks amazing- wow, pours a dark garnet color with a nice beige head. Aroma is pleasant but not too strong- mostly sweet vanilla and cinnamon. The flavor is similar with some dark fruit, spice, and cookie malts. Smooth with a sweet malty finish.
