Jun 6, 2004 750mL bottle. Best before end of 2006. Pours a dull, light brown, some red hints and a lighter yellow hue. Bottle conditioned, but still mostly clear. Aroma of dry toffee, barley grain, dry musty blankets, and some cinnamon-like spice. Flavor starts out dull and dry, with a classic caramel malt, some lightly peppery spice. As it warms, it picks up some lightly sweet fruit flavors (cherries, dates, prunes), though it is still quite dry, and very subtle. Dosent seem to really get terribly interesting. Just a straight up well brewed scotch ale.

Feb 27, 2008 (75 cl bottle at Café 3 Små Rum, Göteborg) Shared with a friend. Labeled 8% ABV. BB 07/06/2010. Clear reddish brown color, big lasting tan head. Sweet and spicy scent, also alcohol. Sweet, fruity and acidic taste. Spritzy mouthfeel, low bitterness. Warming alcohol.

Jan 29, 2003 (750 ml Bottle) Brown, chocolate crud stuck to the inside of the cap, is it still good? We'll soon find out... Pours a medium, white and a cloudy brown-copper body. Head dissipates to a thin lacing. Earthy aroma with hints of alcohol and spice. Strong malt and caramel flavour with a dry and fizzy-bitter finish. Good but I'd prefer having another La Chouffe to this.

If this is a scotch ale, I’m a dutchman. Deep orangy red, brief fizzy head. Winey grapey aroma, some apple and raisin. Fizzy palate, sweet and thin, almost watery. More yeast adds a bit of apple. Quite alcoholic for 8%. Sweet and a bit slushy.

May 6, 2008 750ml bottle from Londis Westholme stores, Goring on Thames, Oxon 03-05-08 Chesnut in clour with a large tan fluffy head. Yeast, malt and a slight soft sourness on the nose. Taste is sweet, malty and like a spicey toffeeness swirling around the mouth it gets a little sticky at times and as pleasant as it is I wish this bottle had of been a little smaller, nonetheless a decent beer.

Mar 4, 2006 Brownish colour with a frothy white head. Aroma of fruit, spices and malt. Sweet taste of malt and fruits. Great beer.
