May 21, 2004 Very thick head. Nice brown color. Nice malt, caramel and toffee aroma maybe fruity too. Malt, caramel, spicy flavors with some alcohol vapors. Spicy, peppery finish. Sticky mouthfeel.

May 18, 2002 Citrus, malt scent. Deep golden amber, huge head, some floaties. Big hops flavour, some spice. Great tongue tingle. Terrific Scottish Ale!

Jan 8, 2007 750ml bottle bought at Ølbutikken, Copenhagen in Dec.05 and shared with CinnamonGirl and Finn at a New Year’s party in Tromsø last Saturday. Dark amber body with a fading head. Earthy, rather smoky aroma. Rounded taste of spicy sweetness and dark fruits supported by winelike notes towards the end (06.01.2007).

Jun 12, 2002 Arrrr! This Scottish Ale got my kilt all in a twist. It’s strangely sweet (almost) and has some odd pine/spice notes. Instead, I’ll take the Orkney beers anyday.

Jun 10, 2007 750. Pours deep opaque ebony with deep amber highlights. Towering thick sudsy moussy tan head--this is a gorgeous beer, a centerfold without a doubt. Funky, sweatsocky, sour cherry-ish on the nose. Big forward malt sweetness/brown-sugary notes all over the palate. Medium attack with subdued carb and nearly-watery body. Mid-palate’s not as subtle or as complex as ya might ordinarily hope for from Achouffe. I’d drink the hell out of this beer if I were standing in a bar that served it and not too many other things--it’d make for an amazingly good session. And an amazingly comatose cab ride afterward. But even though this is local and reasonably priced, I’m not sure I need to seek it out again in a bottle. Solid and then some, but unspectacular.

Sep 18, 2005 Dark brown with a moderate, though lasting tan head. Nose is yeasty and complex. Sweet fruit flavours develops into a dry finish with roasted notes. Mouthfeel is soft like velvet, medium body. Overall, a nicely balanced beer that should not upset anyone.
