Deep red-brown, slightly hazy, massive tan crown leaving generous lace. Aromas of soft toffee, yeast, and leather. The palate leans toward sweetness without being cloying (in contrast to the Heineken Tarwebok I had earlier), and there is a fruity yeastiness behind the caramel malt and subtle sweet spices that make up the foundation of this beer. The alcohol is subtle and well-integrated. I’m not sure of this is because it isn’t true to the style, but I found this much more enjoyable than some of the other scotch ales I’ve had. Still, I liked the "La Chouffe" ale better. harlequinn (2745), Tacoma, Washington, USA

This is not a Scottish Ale., but anyway... This one pours a very nice dark brown color, with a big puffy tan head. Once it is poured you will see why this one gets tons of appearance points. It also has a very sweet chocolately aroma. Although it has basic flavors, it is still quite easy to drink, with lots of chocolate and cocoa in the flavor. Light to medium bodied in the mouthfeel with some nice dry roasted flavors in the finish. Suttree (2732), Knoxville, Tennessee, USA

Freshly mowed grass and brown sugar on the nose. Malty sweet at start, and then some peppary hops. Long, dry finish. DruncanVeasey (2732), The Penguin’s Arms, Europe, Warwickshire, England
| 2.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 4/10 | 3/5 | 10/20 | Apr 20, 2008 Ruby pour heaped with a subsiding rocky beige head. Nose sweet and distinctly woody with rooty/earthy herbal notes like Jagermeister, liquorice, a hint of berry fruit, marzipan..ALCOHOL. Flavour initially caramelised sweetness, medicinal spice, a touch of plummy nectarine fruit, then almond, ALCOHOL bitterness and burn. If this was in a can and brewed by Grolsch or Tennent’s nobody would give it anything. 750ml is way too much. Corked it, stuck it in the fridge for the missus, and had a Westvleteren to take the taste away. Beershine (2710), Where Climate Suits My Clothes, Vietnam
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Aug 17, 2007 Aromas of cinnamon and spices in addition to characteristic malts but an otherwise uncomplex nose. Perhaps I had it served too cold. Semi-opaque brown. Pours with a big creamy head. Certainly a good beer. Storm (2685), Amager, Denmark

| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Jan 13, 2003 Looks like there"s a lawn gnome in a skirt (I mean kilt) on the front of the bottle. Light brown ale with very high carbonation, which doesn"t make for the greatest of mouthfeels. The aroma is light and somewhat floral. The flavor is mildy sweet, little nutty, and very floral (I think they used heather in this ale to give it a real ’Scottish’ flavor). Unique and easy to drink, but not something to rave about. nick76 (2657), Tampa, Florida, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 12/20 | Jul 13, 2006 The aroma has floral hops, caramel malt, yeast, and fruit. The appearance is mahogany with a persistent head. The flavor is malty with toffee and fruit. The palate is OK. The aftertaste has a little chocolate. While this is good I was expecting more.
