Pours an extremely dark, deep crimson-violet hue. A small, foamy, dark tan head leaves a soapy wash to mostly rejoin the body below. The aroma, which comes across a little boozy, is based in brown sugar malt, with earthy, phenolic fig, dark raisins, and a hint of smoky molasses. Flavors are very much the same, again based in dark brown sugar and molasses malt. Notes of rum cake, bread yeast, and dark baking spices lend an earthiness that makes up for the lack of balancing hops. Medium-full on the tongue and balanced, the palate sports a light booziness that shows on the semi-dry finish. Pretty good brew. Walt (2289), Chicago, Illinois, USA

Dark and sweet, not as many aromas as expected, but still good. Bragesnak (2276), Aarhus, Denmark

The foam is good, of course. alexanderj (2263), Chino Hills, California, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 2/5 | 13/20 | Jun 24, 2007 Bottle; poured a dark brown with a creamy off white head. Aroma of caramel malt, yeast and spice. Caramel malt, then peat/roasted malt and hops on the finish. Hints of sweetness; occational alcohol warming, but alcohol well hidden. Palate was a little harsh at times and a little watery; didnt detract from the beer too much though. Not a favorite from a style that I normally like. Mads Langtved (2246), Copenhagen K, Denmark
