| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Aug 9, 2004 Deep dark murky brown color, small, but simmering, tan head. Aroma: mollasses, nuts, butter, cream, dates, raisins, dark rum, all the rich flavors one can imagine. Thick, full, hot mouthfeel, full body, tingly hops. Super-charged with hops, the flavor keeps on coming, simmers and stews, with a long lasting, rich, satisfying finish! Takes the cake for all brown ales everywhere, past, present, future. Round, delicious, sensuous, and utterly lip smackin’!

| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Mar 31, 2004 Light red/orange coloured body with a large tan head. The aroma was of predominantly spices and then fruit. Taste was spice once again noticeably ginger and then some smoke, alcohol was well hidden and it was easy to drink. Beware! | 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | May 3, 2004 Dark brown with perfect pillow head. Aroma is sweet malt with an underpinning of very slightly sour Belgian yeast. Flavor is malty, with a touch of earthiness and Belgian yeast character. Could have been a hair more complex, but quite satisfying overall. DYCSoccer17 (2201), Davis, California, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Apr 11, 2006 Bottle. Fruity, estery pineapple-banana aroma with just a mild touch of caramel in the aroma. As this warms, a mildly chocolate and anise-like aroma starts to claim a small foothold. Smells very Belgian, but nothing like a scotch ale in my opinion. Mildly hazy amber/garnet body with a frothy off-yellow head and some nice lacing. Fruity pineapple/pear-like start, turning more yeast-like in the middle. I get lost of yeastly flavors, with some earthiness late. Mild woodsiness follows along with some scant roasted coffee flavors. Disappointing if you’re expecting a tradtional scotch ale outta this one... willblake (2191), Belcamp, Maryland, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 17/20 | Jan 6, 2006 01.06.06 750ml bottle. Darker copper-red pour, mostly clear, with a medium beige head, fairly lasting and lightly lacing. Aroma is pithy and grassy, more hoppy than I expected, also some barnyard funk, leather, and toffee. The flavor follows suit and the grass and earth notes emerge all around. Leather and wool flavors, dates, some cinnamon all vie for the finish. No note of alcohol, never gets sweet, I had no idea McChouffe would be like this. blutt59 (2182), Dallas, Texas, USA

| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jul 30, 2007 Bottle. Sweet fruity nose is very exotic - first impression was of pomegranate and mango. Ruby-mahogany pour, very dark and nearly opaque with strong visible carbonation and a large, creamy, rocky tanned head that creeps up the sides of the glass. Taste, too, is exotic, flavors mentioned before but with peaty malt, wood, and light figs entering in. Crisp and playful mouthfeel, full body. Not really dry at all, though the woodiness almost serves the purpose. Earthy, spicy undertones, blending extremely well with the sugar. No real hop presence. Touch of warmth from the alcohol. Class and memorably unique!
