Aroma of figs, cherries, cola and alcohol plus an odd note of mustard seed. Also has a roasted nutty quality plus some solvent character. Medium sweet liquor and earthy malt flavor with kerosene and leather notes. Sticky smooth palate. Distinct, complex and challenging. johndoughty (2170), cheslyn hay, West Midlands, England

| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Aug 7, 2005 Spicy aroma with brown sugar notes. Brown with head that faded fast. Grassy, yeasty and ample spice. No real smokiness for a scoth ale. Comes across as a less gassy version of a belgian strong ale with less spice and sweetness. Different and fun to drink. jsquire (2123), St. Marys, Ohio, USA

Musty/earthy/dirty/dusty flavors with a fruit sweet foundation of apricot, raisin, and dried currents. Pleasant enough. mds (2112), Toronto, Ontario, Canada
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Sep 23, 2007 Bottle. Pours a dark mahogany body with a medium-sized tannish head. The aroma has some doughy/syrupy caramel, light smoke, and toasty malts. Pleasant carbonation...flavours of sweet caramel and dark bread - otherwise fairly complacent and straightforward. Extremely earthy malts and touches of perfume, wood, juicy hops, and musty yeast notes in the aroma. Nutty malts with a touch of Crystal richness and soil. Complex, dry finish of chew earthy malt goodness atop a gentle noble hop kiss. Cellaring is a must for this to reach its full beauty.
