| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | May 10, 2006 Dark tawny brown beer with an off-white tannish head that has nice retention. Aroma has rich caramel malts with earthy yeast and toffee. There also seems to be a bit of spice in the background. Mouthfeel is just a bit over medium with carbonation that is between fizzy and frothy. Taste is split between Scotch ale and Belgium strong, but lean a bit more towards the scotch side. Taste has lots of toffee and caramel richness with some dark fruits hanging around. Finish has spice and earthiness. Overall a very nice beer to be savored. SpringsLicker (2043), Tennessee, USA

Caramel malt & spice aroma.
Lightly sweet, pleasant but not a very complex beer.
A good brown ale. SHIG (2037), Aviano, Italy

| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Oct 14, 2006 Draft at Duck Island. Pours a clear mahogany with a huge fuffy white head. With La Chouffe already under my belt I was prepared to love this beer, but there just isn’t nearly as much here. To be fair, I have to admit that I tried it right after a pretty amazing DIPA, but still... not much here. A bit of toffee and wood in the nose. The taste is sweet with caramel malt, and a bit of fruit and nuts. I’m thinking these guys should stick to Belgians and the occasional Belgian IPA. kook (2034), Perth, Western Australia, Australia
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Dec 26, 2003 Pours brown with ruby edges when held to light. Large beige head with good retention. Aroma of caramel biscuits, malt extract and fresh fruit. Sweet malty flavour, though very well balanced all the way through. Hops there, but just enough. I actually prefered this to the La chouffe. patrick767 (2033), fort wayne, Indiana, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Apr 2, 2007 11.2 oz bottle - Pours reddish brown with a moderately sized, foamy head. The aroma is sweet, yeasty, and has some caramel. The malty flavor has some good dark fruit notes hiding in there. It’s medium bodied and goes down easy at 8.5% abv. I hadn’t pegged this as a Scotch Ale as the Belgian character is definitely there. I suppose it’s a hybrid of sorts. Good beer. Indra (2029), Prairie Village, Kansas, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Dec 26, 2001 Aroma of dark bread. Very robust head. Somewhat opaque dark reddish-brown, with some sediment. Some sweet, dark, fruity malt tastes up front, with a just a hint of sourness and some spices at the end (hops?). Very interesting blend of styles here, and it works. Medium body and some effervescence. Aftertaste is very nice, lightly citric, almost... Good stuff.
