| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jun 8, 2003 Dark brown color, tall tan head, seems highly carbonated.Fruity aroma with hints of alcohol and hops, and mild malt. The taste was quite good malty well carbonated and fruity with a mild spice to it.This doesn't seem much like a scottish ale with this much carbonation and it doesn't have the body to fit the style IMO,but still its a fine brew and the price is right for the size bottle it comes in. | 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 5/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Feb 15, 2009 Gorgeous, rich ruby color highlighting the copious yeasties floating in the glass Adorned with a poofy head fed by the rapidly rising carbonation bubbles. Aroma characterized by mustyness, and European hops with a somewhat soapy quality; Despite the prevalence of yeast, this tastes malty like a Scottish ale with a dusted malt-ball quality. Deeply malty. Intriguing synthesis of Belgian and Scottish qualities. Yeast is pretty tame, but perhaps a hint of Belgian characer and a soupcon of peat. stouby (1959), Holbaek, Denmark

Red brown with light browne head, mostly diminishing, modest lacings. Aroma moderate malty (spicy). Flavor moderate sweet, light bitter/acidic. Medium body, creamy, soft carbonated, the alcohol is felt.

| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | May 16, 2005 bottle-pours a ruby red hue with a big off-white head-big and sudsy. musty, sweet, estery aroma that doesnt smell anything like the scotch ales of england/scotland. this is more a dubbel-good spicy notes, estery, fruity. Lots of malt, but not in the scotch ale style. I really like ths one, especially of a style i dont care for. phishpond417 (1953), Madison, Wisconsin, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 9/10 | 3/5 | 10/20 | Aug 12, 2008 This beer pours a dark, yet translucent copper colour with a little bit of noticeable sediment floating around- no problemo however. Plenty of carbonation- nice frothy whip cram like vanilla coloured head. Lacing is decent and is hesitant to disperse. Aroma is like of grapenuts and sort of alcoholy/grainy like notes. Soft toffee and cinnamon. Taste is very light, lighter then i expected in fact. Carmel apples, white chocolate, doughnuts and some roasted java. MilkmanDan (1940), Eagan, Minnesota, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 11/20 | Dec 4, 2001 Most noticeable thing was the massive head on this one. Would have preferred that I could have noticed the flavor more, but it lacked anything too exciting. Agree with other reviewers that it’s far more reminscent of a Scottish Ale than a brown, as it didn’t have the chewy maltiness of the latter. Nice effect on the palate with the huge head. Very sweet, but just not that impressive for a Belgian. tronraner (1939), Seymour, Tennessee, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Feb 3, 2009 750 mL bottle. Pours hazy dark red with proportional beige head. The aroma is toffee, raisin, clove, waffles. The flavor has a nice yeasty raisinbread quality that I find quite appealing, then some earthy spices and faint dark fruit notes. There’s a distant smoky note and some wooden bitterness toward the finish, which is refreshingly dry. Pretty good stuff, I’ll have no problem polishing off the bottle.
