| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Apr 1, 2007 Pours a textured reddish brown with a thick creamy light tan head. The aroma is very sweet, definite Belgian influence in there, sour yeast smell, light alcohol, and caramel. The flavor doesn’t taste as much like the other Scotch Ales I’ve had. Definite Belgian presence, earthy, alcohol is there, no peat smoke, not terribly complex, raisins and light light spice on the swallow. The palate is full and warm with a popping crispness. The finish shows the alcohol and warms the throat and stomach. JoeM500 (1876), Chicago (little italy), Illinois, USA

| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jan 9, 2006 This reddish brown ale poured with a lacy tan head, eliciting a malty aroma. The flavor is spicy toasted malt with a slightly smoky finish and a heavily carbonated mouthfeel. The taste mellows as the beer warms, resulting in a very satisfying drink. A dry malty aroma, some licorice in there, and vinuous notes. A medium and smooth mouthfeel with rich malty flavours and a light bitter finish. Was hoping for more, though still good. | 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 17/20 | Jul 20, 2007 33 cl bottle, "Best Before End 2007." Rating #MCC! (Get it?) Served at about 45°F in a tulip glass. Deep brown with ruby red streaks in the light. Thin, tenacious head. Smell of unwashed sugars, some light fruits. Rich, sugary Belgian dark ale more than Scotch, I think. Caramel malts start to pick up, and a bit of smoke or phenol. Richly carbonated, helping to bring out more of the alcohol. Raisins and dried fruits after that, just a suggestion of cinnamon and crystallized ginger. Mild bitterness really can’t stand up to this Belgian sweetness, but this is well sweetened, not cloying. A great, contemplative brew that, for once, I pulled from my cellar at just the right time.
