Grill party at home July 08. 2006 Mahogany red with a nice head. The aroma and flavour have notes of roasted malt, candy sugar, and the flavour also has notes of resin, spice, raisin and other fruits. It has a nice bitterness, but we had it after Unibroues Fringante, so that would be difficult for any beer.

Botella. Pours a hazy deep amber colour with a huge well lasting off-white head leaving a good lacing. Aroma of sweet well toasted malt, yeast, caramel and some sweet fruitiness. Good but bit thin mouthfeel. The flavour has a good well toasted maltiness, caramel, yeast, some dark fruits, mild bitter hoppiness and alcohol. The finish is sweet with a good maltiness and some yeast.

Malt and chocolate aroma. Sweetish, malty, whisky and chocolate flavor. Some alcohol. This beer is reasonably well hopped, but that is hidden by the velvety sweetness. Very likeable beer, tasty and powerful.

A Mes rate: Very much as you would expect. It’s pretty much a dark La Chouffe. Yeasty nose with some caramel. Nice red brown colour with a chunky long lasting pillowy head, leaving lots of lace. More caramel in the flavour plus pretty much everything you find in the La ie; lots of sweetness and fairly apparent alcohol. Quite malty too. Reasonably complex and fairly enjoyable.

Pours muddy brown with a thin head that dissappears quickly. A masterpiece in smell with tones of cinnamon, anis, oranges and fruity tones from the yeast. It is medium to full-bodied. The tasting only enhances the aromatic pleasures. Stunning!

Poured a medium brown with a huge brown head. Tiny particles. Malty with spicy aroma. Sweet tasting. Tastes of caramel, brown sugar and spices. The tastes and aroma came out as the beer warmed up.

Aged 1 year, from a douglas scotch ale glass. Burgundy-brown beer with a big foamy and frothy off-white head that holds the glass reasonably. Flavor profile is yeasty, deeply malty, caramelic and notes of licorice and cloves(which I usually dont particularly like, but fits well here). Bitterness, Astringence. Rather complex, with everything well balanced and pleasant. A beer I love, typical belgian spiciness with a charming round body and dangerously drinkable given its ABV. Belgian take on scotch ale? Sounds about right!
