what is this stuff, not a scottich, not a brown ale, not even an "abbey" ...its like a strange mix of them all, a big disappoint with this, after having la chouffe in amsterdam, this is a bastard, a good beer yes, but not near great. some wine like qualities, in taste and smell...has a nice puddle of head, in the chimay glass it had a nice boob puddle. If I hadn’t paid $12 for the bottle i would be alittle nicer to this beer, MAYBE on tap ONE day but, if u can find it on discount do it!

Bottle shared by hallinghansen. Brown colour with a superb creamy light beige head. Fruity aroma with dark sugar and lots of malt. Creamy body. Great taste of spices, dark candy sugar and yeast.

Pours a light tan, two-finger head, fades slowly and leaves a good lace. Light carbonation and medium bodied. Cloudy amber color. Nose is slighty malty. Starts just on the sweet side, finishes mellow, better as it warms; label has the ABV at 8.5% but there is not a trace of alcohol. $8.90 for a 750ml bottle from Colonial Spirits Acton, MA.

Pours mahogany in color, decent white head fades to film. Very bready, yeasty aroma, some light fruit in the background. Flavor is very subdued malt with dark fruits and slight spice in the finish. Very dry finish.

Draft at Thirsty Monk recommended by Zoe ;) By this late in the evening, my handwriting wasn’t too legible. In fact, all I can make out is: ’’great’’ and ’’some smoke’’. But I can still read the numbers at least.

Bottle-Pours a deep, but slightly transparent mahogany body, with a nice beige froth sitting atop, leaving nice lace. Spicy, fruity nose with molasses, brown sugar, cherries and plum, with a touch of wood. Sweet Belgian candy sugar is up front, with peppery spices, some wood smoke, cherries and prunes. Quite effervescent and refreshing given the style and ABV. High drinkability. Well crafted.
