Lots of spices here like nutmeg, coriander, and clove. A honey sweetness is noted along with bubblegum and lots of flowery scents. This is pretty sweet, but not to the point of being excessive. A distinct oak flavor sort of makes me think of a Scotch ale, but I’d never make that connection on my own. Hints of raisins, port, nutmeg, coriander. . .this almost has a quad feel to it. The mouthfeel is medium with sporadic spritzy patches on my palate. This is pretty darn good, I’m impressed with the Chouffe lineup thus far. jason (1623), Easton, Pennsylvania, USA

Very dark, almost black appearance with decent head that stays. Very nice hoppy aroma. The taste is awesome with a lite carbonation and a well balanced body. Slightly sweet with a hint of brown sugar and raisins. Very good on draft. Cheers!
Update: 750ml - still great taste. What I love about this beer is the sweet malty background you get as your drinking it. Outstanding. jerohen (1614), Bussum, Netherlands

Poured a daaaaark and murky lovely red body with a medium-big thieck off white head. Malty nose, weak notes of dried fruit. The taste is sweetish, dominated by a somewhat bublegummy tasty maltiness. Dry hopiness leaving some aromatic notes. Dried fruit emerges from the maltiness and maybe some strawberry too. Overall very nice. jpm30 (1588), East Central, Georgia, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Dec 29, 2006 From a 750 ml. green bottle with a blurb and serving suggestions on the back label. Sampled at a cooler cellar temperature in a La Chouffe snifter.
Poured a hazy golden orangey hued brown with a foamy, creamy off-white head that settled into a thin bubbly lacing, minimal amount of sticking.
Aromas of bubble gum and spicy, earthy alcohol, peppery hops and sweet grainy, lightly caramel malts.
Good carbonation and a crisp, dryish, creamy smooth medium bodied mouthfeel.
A nice velvety taste, light sweet caramel, bubble gum and clove yeasty, grainy, peppery spicy hops, a soft fruitiness that mingles with the alcohol, the alcohol provides a warming presence in the palate, and a dry spicy, yeasty, sweet malty finish.
Easy, smooth drinkability, another good ale from this Belgian brewer, well worth trying.
