Pours a huge head with a great thick lacing over a cola looking brown body. Flavor is also sweet and yeasty with carmel malt to smooth it out. Nice spice kick too. Palate is a bit dull and slick. Not bad. highlandlad (1258), Sydney, Australia
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Jan 19, 2005 These guys make dangerously easy-to-drink strong ales. May the good Lord forgive them for all the hangovers they’ve caused, the magnificent bastards. I’m not sure what tartan the gnome on the label is wearing but he’s welcome to join my clan. It pours a plummy brown colour with a healthy rocky head. The big ripe nose hints at the high alcohol content. Rum and raisins, with a handful of nuts for good measure. It’s medium-bodied and slides down a treat, leaving a firm bitter hop finish. Great balance, with hints of madeira, fruit cake and nuts. It lacks the muscle of a true Scotch ale but it’s a terrific act in its own right. It’s light enough that you could drink it on a warm summer day. Well done gnome - or as they say in the home of Scotch ales - go on yersel wee man. (Bottle) crazyvin (1254), New York, USA
| 2.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 4/10 | 5/5 | 8/20 | Jul 8, 2004 kind of disappointing, actually very disappointing. It poured a clear brown clor with a nice brown head. Aroma was very earthy like, no hops or fruit like notes at all. Taste was bland mostly malts with a slight apricot taste. It missed a distingtive smokiness to it and it missed hops, boy did it miss hops. It was heavy on the stomach and had a full feeling in the mouth turbo (1254), Arizona, USA

Cloudy brown with a huge foamy head. Sour ale with sweet dark malts. Exremely spice first kick, followed by sour, sweet dark malt, some fruit. Mouth feel is almost puffy due to carbonation. Finish is slightly bitter and only lightly hopped, tannic and dry. jimmack (1221), Nutley, New Jersey, USA

Clear brown color with a large frothy tan head. Spicy, yeasty aroma with just a hint of raisins. Starts off mildly sweet before turning drier and bitter on the finish. Spicy bread-like flavor with a touch of toffee. luckygirl (1221), Boulder, Colorado, USA

| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Sep 15, 2008 Draft. Slighly hazy red/brown pour with a bubbly off-white head. Didn’t get a huge head from my pour. Malty goodness on the nose, but with Belgian sugar (candied fruits) as well. Toffee and caramel, and some nice yeast. Similar to a dubbel but yeastier. A very, very easy-drinking Belgian.
