It was very alcoholic in flavor and the finish was very sweet. A nice beer, and I will have to try it again. M0RHI (1067), Luxembourg, Luxembourg
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 2/5 | 16/20 | Mar 25, 2007 Bottle. Pours a darky brown-red colour, thin bubbly off-white head. Aroma is sweet malt, some sour fruit, sherbert and yeast. Warming mouth, grassy notes, rich and bold, but with this nasty pine aftertaste that lingers. That spoilt it a bit, for what is a very nice beer. Palate is not too heavy, drinkable, worryingly so. Good, apart from that nasty aftertaste. jredmond (1049), New Jersey, USA

| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Mar 14, 2009 75cl bottle. Dark reddish brown, foamy beige head. A tad metallic, strongly spicy nose with ripe apple, celery, hint of rye bread and alcohol. A bit tangy spicy flavor with pepper and dark candi sugar, kinda muddy. La Chouffe spices times ten. Medium bodied, too strongly carbonated fizzy palate. That Chouffe spritziness doesn’t totally fit in here. Beardface (1034), Eugene, Oregon, USA

Interesting brew to be sure, like a cross between a Scotch Ale and a Belgian Strong Dark. Pours out a deep brown with a bubbly tan head that fades quickly into some thick lacing. Aroma is all over the road, featuring chocolate, belgian yeast, earthy hops, dark fruit. Flavor is just as spastic, with belgian yeast, brown sugar, peat, earthy hops, chocolate and dark fruit. This is a very strange beer, but I quite enjoyed it. Always nice to see brewers experimenting with hybrid styles. ChillCoat (1029), Concord, California, USA

| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 15/20 | Feb 24, 2006 Rusty caramel pour with a great, tight forming head that stays the whole glass. Spritzy aroma is mostly light fruits - pear, apple with a slight sourness and funky yeast note as well. The body is light and sweet, with subtle notes of wet wood and earth that blend nicely with the more dominant apple notes. The alcohol is absolutely silent in this from start to finish. trokini (1027), San Diego, California, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Sep 29, 2008 Pours murky brown with a medium-sized tan head. Lots of molasses, yeast, dark fruits, candi sugar, and grapes in the nose. Great taste. Funny how the Scotch ale qualities compliment the Belgian strong ale qualities. Sweet caramel and banana flavors. Fair amount of licorice, toffee, and raisin. The funk comes through in the end with a earthy/wood quality. Good stuff.
