This beer poured a dark mahogany hue with a large, fluffy head of tan foam that slowly faded down to a thin, lasting layer. A fair amount of lace clung to the sides of the glass. The aroma of the beer was made up of caramel, brown sugar, nuts, and dark fruits. The flavor consisted of dark fruits, burnt sugar, light smoke, and a strong note of alcohol. The mouthfeel was full-bodied and smooth with a moderate amount of carbonation. A decent Scotch ale, but not overly interesting of impressive. rocbyter (925), Waterbury, Connecticut, USA

| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Oct 26, 2008 75cl poured into a pint glass. Nice light brown with red tints. Light beige head. Smells nice and yeasty with some alcohol on the nose. Good flavors of candied sugar, light carmel, finishes with a sharp bitterness that fades to a light alcohol end. The moderate to heavy carbonation works well and keeps the mouth crisp with the flavors popping. The end feels slightly creamy. Excellent head retention and a very nice beer. smith4498 (919), Miami, Florida, USA

Faint aroma of malts and dark fruits. Awesomely balanced flavor with notes of roasted coffee and prunes. Mildly bitter hops and a touch of whiskey. Lightly dry with a malty-bitter finish. can8ianben (908), Pasadena, California, USA

VERY smooth and drinkable - for 8.5%, this is incredibly balanced and smooth. You could chug this stuff. Sweet malt on the palate - brown sugar, toffee, some faint yeasty notes. I was worried at the start, too many contradicting flavors flying around. Bittersweet, earthy, fruity- confusion set in, so I set it aside for a few minutes for warming. What a difference. Still missing that true Gaelic malting, but nonetheless, a good effort. Decent malt with a snappy yeasty push.
