Enough carbonation to keep my chimay glass busy with it’s bubblicious column of aromomatic generation. The aroma has is lightly malty like a scotch but has a definate belgian quality to it. A bit of sweet malts and vinous hops. The flavor has a good amount of alcohol with some dark malts and tart toffee. Finishes very belgian with some bottle conditioned yeasyness and a little tart kick. Not too bad, unique scotch for sure though. chriso (4796), London, Greater London, England
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | May 3, 2005 Deep reddish brown colour. I’m not generally a fan of sweet beers and the big sweet malt and molasses aroma suggested I might struggle with this one. But, once in the mouth it was surprisingly dry (if not very dry) with lots of burnt caramel and a woody, vinous edge. Lots of plummy fruit and nuts. Also a bit herbal. Mouth filling but not cloying. Nice beer. 750ml bottle, January 2005.

Good spice malt aroma with a small alcohol tone. Medium body with a sticky texture. Good toasted malt flavor with a moderate spicy finish. Very good brown ale. leaparsons (4749), Leicester, Leicestershire, England

A deep brown coloured beer with some candy sugar in both the aroma and taste. There is some spritziness to it but it is thin and not really reminiscent of a Scotch ale IMO. Semi-turbid ruby pour with a huge, creamy white head. Aroma of malt, hopcit, fruit, peat. Tastes malty, fruity, with some hops and added fruit at the finish. Firm, dense palate, and a great balance and complexity. This one kicks ass and takes names. ChristianScheffel (4557), Odense, Denmark
