Bottle. High fluffy off-white and lasting head. Hazy dark orange body. Grassy barley malt aroma. Spicy and dry malt flavor with distinct hops bitterness. The high alcohol percentage is well hidden partly by the bitterness partly by the carbonation.

Ruby red colour and different spice than the regular La Chouffe from this Brasserie. Appearance and taste of a top Belgium, from aging. Taste more from malt and carmel sweetness, corriander and pepper, but then a Good hop kick aftertaste. Acidity just demands food. Thanks Jercraigs.

Bottle (330ml). Poured a beautiful cloudy dark ruby-brown with a large foamy/rocky light brown head and noticeable sludge of tiny black particles. Aroma quite surprising - more mild hop bitterness than I expected, competing with the usual dark roast malt, bread yeastiness, some toffee and root beeriness - quite sweet on warming. Taste follows the aroma, darkly sweet, not much hoppiness, still nicely spicy, with fruit and vanilla entering the blend. Very enjoyable, not alcohol-strong at all, although as it warms the alcohol asserts itself some. A little astringent mouthfeel. I’d like to try the 750ml bottle, or better yet, have it on tap if I ever visit Bruges again.

Bottle 750? ml
Appearance : Dark ruby brown with respectable tanned creamy head.
Nose : Good pair of brown malt with clean alcohol. Well composed set: malt/alcohol/sour wheat.7+
Flavour/Palate :Flavour was a bit more flat than aroma. Sweet toffee-caramel malt dominant. Alcohol placed as secondary. Creamy finish with hint of brown chocolate.

Dark ruby brown body with a healthy off white head. Aroma is either muted or my nose is malfunctioning. Bit of sweet malt. Nice mouthfeel, lots of sweet maltiness and a touch of yeast in the flavour. Just a touch of alcohol in the finish. Very nice beer but not mindblowing.

Rating number 400! This brew pored a vaery large creamy head of finely sized light brown bubbles that was mostly lasting. It has a softly carbonated semi transparent brown body and a heavenly malty aroma. Its mouthfeel is slightly tingly at first then fades into a noticeable mild alcohol burn as the flavor of spices, roasted caramel malts and vinuos alcohol notes kick in. Its mild kick starts to set in after just a few sips.

Bottle [Tasting @ Per 23-02-2007]. Another implausible great beer at this evenings tasting. The head was huge fizzy and slightly off-white. Excellent lacing left behind. Body was surprisingly clear with a sparkling look and a dark amber hue. Aroma was light toasted, caramel, honey, spice, light chocolate, dry fruit, earth and notes of peat. Full bodied with a lively carbonation and maybe slight warming alcoholic texture. Super balanced flavor that kept shifting between sweet malty notes and bitter burned candies. How well balanced and at the same time complex.
