Fruity complex aroma. The flavour is sweet malty, with some vinous and woody notes. The bitterness is very low, but enough to balance this beer. The body is quite powerful and the aftertaste is quite long. A great beer. glennmastrange (857), hobe sound, Florida, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Oct 31, 2007 Bottle. Moderate malt notes of caramel and nutty, light hops of herbs, and a moderate yeast aroma of dough, with wood and brown sugar in the background. Head is huge, both fizzy and rocky, off-white, has good lacing and is mostly lasting. Color is clear brown. Flavor starts moderately sweet and lightly acidic, then finishes lightly sweet, acidic, bitter and sour and just a touch salty. Palate is medium, watery and a little oily, and the carbonation is between lively and fizzy. It finishes a little metallic and astringent. This my first Scotch ale and I like it, mostly for the taste and texture. scottymac223 (2), WIlliamstown, New Jersey, USA does not count | 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Mar 10, 2007 One of my first favorite beers was Newcastle Brown Ale. The second I opened the 75cl bottle of Mc Chouffe, I caught a familiar aroma, but better. Much better. The pour was great right into the center of the tall glass, creating an immense, cream colored head, followed by beautiful lacing. Taste was rich, buttery, burnt, caramel. A pleasant fruity sweet aroma catches the nose. The taste lingers and can be felt on the tounge minutes later. Crisp and refreshing. Excellent beer. judasbeer (248), Budapest, Hungary
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Apr 25, 2009 Dark amber, orange color with rocky, well-lacing, dense off-white head. Spicy coriander aroma at the first nose. After conditioning becomes more fruity with prunes, chestnut and liquorice feel.
The flavor is full of fruits. Brown sugar candy, orange peels, coriander and some caramel malty edge. The aftertaste is spicy with full of coriander and some liquorice with a slight fruity tartness. Very easy bodied, almost watery texture with dense carbonation.

| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Sep 24, 2008 750mL bottle served in tumbler- poured very dark brown with ruby red tints, low-medium carbonation of tiny bubbles, pillow like one finger head formed and laced nicely. Aroma of walnuts, powdered sugar, yeast, caramel malt, and funk. Hits the mouth with a high-medium body, malt is tasty, nuts and sweetness in the middle, some wood lingers in the background throughout, finish has a burn of alcohol but is enjoyable. If you don’t like this brew, you really have something wrong with you. Gusler (2655), Tucson, Arizona, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jun 29, 2004 The beer after disassociating itself from the 750ml dark green bottle sets in the glass a brilliantly clear brown color with a semi-creamy tan head piled high on the body, lace a thick and sticky sheet to obscure the glass. The aroma of yeast, hops, sweet malt, a bit of peat smokiness, all rolled up into one, crisp and fresh, the start is inconspicuous in its sweetness, the malts plentiful and the top fair to middling in its feel to the palate. The finish is unrelenting in its acidity, the hops pleasing it their spicy presence, quite dry aftertaste and a fine drinking beer. Bov (5451), Bienne, Switzerland
