The beer after disassociating itself from the 750ml dark green bottle sets in the glass a brilliantly clear brown color with a semi-creamy tan head piled high on the body, lace a thick and sticky sheet to obscure the glass. The aroma of yeast, hops, sweet malt, a bit of peat smokiness, all rolled up into one, crisp and fresh, the start is inconspicuous in its sweetness, the malts plentiful and the top fair to middling in its feel to the palate. The finish is unrelenting in its acidity, the hops pleasing it their spicy presence, quite dry aftertaste and a fine drinking beer.

Sweet licorice aroma, very belgian. Good carbo, fruity licorice tastes. This one was aged 2 years. Nice work being patient with this one Oakes! I haven’t had a new one, but Oakes says that is matures very well.

750 ML bottle, best before End 2006: Very subtle in all ways. I would never guess this is a 8.5% beer. Lacks any true direction or flavor besides its Belgian flavored yeast. I'm going with VENOM and wishing that I saved mine for a year or two.

Citrus, malt scent. Deep golden amber, huge head, some floaties. Big hops flavour, some spice. Great tongue tingle. Terrific Scottish Ale!

Thick head and lacing, nose of rum, raisin, earthy. Tasted with alcfron and another, we did agree there was some cola to it.
