The flavor is spicy toasted malt with a slightly smoky finish and a heavily carbonated mouthfeel. The taste mellows as the beer warms, resulting in a very satisfying drink. henry3r (586), Wichita, Kansas, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Aug 9, 2007 The 750ML bottle poured a deep brownish ruby red beverage with a huge frothy cream colored head that settled to a small creamy head that was completely lasting and left good lacing on the glass. The aroma was characteristic of a Belgian strong ale ... pungent, fruity and spicy notes caress the senses with hints of leather, malt and cotton candy hiding in the recesses of the palate. The body was full with soft carbonation and a smooth, creamy texture. The flavor started out sweet and stayed that way throughout the long finish. There is a subtle alcohol warmth at the end as well. dirkules (613), Toronto, Ontario, Canada

A most smooth ale that reeks of chocolates and toffees in a way quite unlike a porter or a stout. A great sampler and a great beer TheBeerOrg (1586), Kentucky, USA

| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Oct 13, 2005 Bottle. Ruddy clearn dark brown pour (decanted off yeast very nicely). Somewhat fruity malt aroma and yeast, touch of smoke. More of the same in flavors, but definitely bready as well. Nicely spiced, and a little warming, but hides alcohol good. | 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Apr 12, 2006 Very dark brown/ruby. Large, dense, tan head. Aroma of bready yeast, grainy malt, earth, and subtle spice. For the flavor add some toasty notes. Dry, yeasty finish and aftertaste bring peat and dark fruits, a strange pair to arrive at the same time. Alcohol is evident in the palate, but not the taste. Full body is a little more carbonated than balanced. Let it sit for awhile. Very nice lacing. Definitely more flavor coming out as it approaches room temperature. Why do I even bother chilling them? Most of the good ones are a hell of a lot better at room temp. More peaty malt, dark fruit, and earthy, anise like spice in both flavor and aroma. Great brew. Now I’m looking for the Nice Chouffe, too bad it’s April.
