On draught at the brewpub in St Cloud, Minnesota. Pours a slightly clear, and very dark brown brew with a thin tan head that quickly dissipates to a thin tan ring that has a nice retention and some spotty lacing. Aroma of dark chocolate, bananas, a touch of brown sugar, some flowery hops and candi sugar. Taste is slightly sweet, full bodied dubbel with flavors of chocolate covered bananas, some toasted dark malt with a touch of candi sugar. Finish is sweet at first that quickly changes to a semi-dry and mild bitterness with a yeast and chocolate aftertaste. Lots of character in this dubbel that makes this dark seasonal one of their best products to date.

Sep 3, 2008 Thanks to Skyview for this one. Aroma has banana and chocolate, in addition to some neutral spirits aroma. Wheat and malt, with dry oak. Thick on the palate. Not a bad beer, but doesn’t fit the dubbel style very well. There is a lager quality; I thought it might be a weizenbock.

Aug 27, 2008 (growler from Skyview) Pours dark brown with a medium sized tan head. The aroma is quite unusual for a dubbel, and I would’ve thought it to be more of a weizenbock, as the aromas were similar to a chocolate covered banana and gumball, instead of the usual raisin and bready yeast most dubbels possess. This was different, but it was still pleasing to smell. The taste is very sweet, with more banana, sweet malt, chocolate, and a crisp finish, which again reminded me of a wheat beer. The mouthfeel was medium. This was an interesting beer that was also easy to drink.

Aug 21, 2008 Growler, courtesy of Skyview. Dark brown color with a large head. Strong aroma of chocolate covered bananas. Wow... the taste lives up to the aroma. Sweet malt, chocolate, banana, fruit and yeast. Very nice.
