McCoys Triple B ESB

A year old keg put on tap for the 12th anniversary poured into a snifter. has a very thick and large head a top a thick, murky pale golden color. Aroma is grainy and earthy hops with thick dusty and moldy white bread maltiness. It definitely is an amped up ESB, lots of that character with some alcohol added. Taste has some more of the sweet tea aspect coming out and the hops are sweeter. I had lots of tea flavored burps after this.

(Draught, labeled as “Triple B”) Pours a hazy amber body with a small off-white head. Aroma of bread, toffee, brown sugar, light cherry, and cocoa. Flavor of hops (grassy), brown sugar, toasted bread, caramel malt, and some cherry.

GABF 2008. Served as ’’Triple B’’ imperial ESB 11th aniversary ale. Deep golden brown, thick almond coloured head. Sweet brown (burnt) sugar, married nicely to generous citrus oil, resinous hops (bot in HUGE quantity on the palate). Beautifully balanced, the booziness is dangerously well hidden!

Sweet, malty and fruity aroma, sugary and lightly hoppy, with notes of light brown sugar, pear, a bit of grape Kool-Aid and some bready, toasty, sweet maltiness. Hazy dark amber color with a fine, subsiding, off-white head. Flavor is also very malty and sweet, plenty of brown sugar here along with some toasty, bready malt and spicy, herbal hop flavors, touches of pepper, pine and faint citrus and a good dosage of bitterness at the finish. Alcohol is present, but far from overwhelming, just providing some warmth, mainly. Palate is smooth, carbonation is low, body is plenty full. My wife, not knowing what the style was, pegged this as a Barleywine. I couldn’t disagree much at all. Quite tasty. Perhaps not as mind-blowing as the 10th Anniversary but good nonetheless.
