unclemattie (2370), Georgia, USA Sep 19, 2009 Tap @ McCoy’s Public House. Light brown color. nice lace. White head. Hint of dried fruit. Some dates. Very sweet with date sugars. Equally strong. It has a little burn. It is very heavy bodied. Richm malt, heavy bodied. You’d only be able to drink just one of these it is so BIG. I LOVE IT! Very well done. Flavorful, hearty, and rich. Yum. SledgeJr (2957), Omaha, Nebraska, USA May 26, 2007 On tap at the Parkville Microbrew Festival. Pours dark amber with an off-white yellowy head. Has a coriander dryness. Thick malt backbone and very caramel. Has a good meaty aroma. tjthresh (1746), Greenfield, Indiana, USA Jul 29, 2005 Updated: Aug 23, 2005Served in a hurricane glass which I thought was odd. I took a lot of crap from my buddies for that. Black pepper and brown sugar come through well in the nose. Soft malts also. Cloudy orange color which I don’t really think is right for style. Thick foamy head with lots of lace. Notes of pepper, orange/lemon, and sugar in each drink. Valvety smooth with subtle carbonation. Not a bad whack at a Belgian. I would get it again. Indra (2018), Prairie Village, Kansas, USA May 22, 2004 Served appropriately in a stemmed tulip glass, but when ordering this, count on 20-30 mins. time for the beer to warm sufficiently prior to consumption.
Aroma is full of malt and yeast, dark breadiness and light brown sugar sweetness blending with prominent banana and melon fruitiness, toffee, spicy notes and a certain floral sweetness. Light-medium amber-brown color, pale for the style and filtered with a slight but lasting head. Flavor profile is mildly complex -- malty, sweet, estery and lightly tangy with the sugary and toffeeish malt up front followed by a rush of fruitiness and a lively, lightly acidic, long and mildly warming finish. Pleasant interplay of malt sweetness and fruity yeast, some very faint citrusy notes to be found inbetween. Body is medium-full, mouthfeel is round and smooth. Certainly a pleasant surprise and a very good beer.
