Commercial Description:
In the summer of 1858, Main Street in Kansas City was overrun by hogs. The city passed a "Hog Law" authorizing the city’s marshall to catch any of the porkers found roaming in the streets and throw them in a "Hog Pound". Hundreds of swine were apprehended and there owners had to pay fines for their release. A traditional English style Brown Ale, Hog Pound is a slightly sweet and mildly hopped with a smooth , pleasent flavor reminiscent of the Great Brown Ales from England.

Thought it was a little thin, not too much there to sepeak of. It had a brown color that was also nothing special. It wasn’t bad by any means but just kind of mild for a brown. It did have a good carbonation.

Reddish-brown brew with a thin body. Light nuttiness and an OK flavor, but this just didn’t call out to me.

A very average beer. What really turn me off here was the very prickly carbonation and a slight metalic after taste.

On tap at the brewpub. Extremely clear brown color with no head and no lacing. Nutty aroma, almost granola-like. Tongue-tingling for some reason other than alcohol content. Rich body. 15 IBUs.

Very smooth, blanced flavour. A slightly bitter middle but nicely sweet throughout.

Light brown with small head. Faint malt notes with slight nutty aroma. Light mouthfeel with sour finish. Nuts, light hops, and light malt flavors. Pretty much a micro Newcastle...ho hum

Usually when I smell a beer, my olfactory senses are shot by the 3rd or 4th whiff. I could still smell the roasted malt/caramel sweetness of Hog Pound Brown at the 15th whiff. Why would I keep smelling the beer that many times you ask? Because the aroma is that good. Hazy tawny body with spare head. Flavor notes include brown sugar and vanilla. Medium bodied with average carbonation. Finish is long, sweetness moderate and bitterness only light (15 IBU). Features Fuggle and Northern Brewer hops. Technically a solid beer. Just doesn’t assert itself enough. To that end, perhaps a few more hops would help.
