Commercial Description:
In the summer of 1858, Main Street in Kansas City was overrun by hogs. The city passed a "Hog Law" authorizing the city’s marshall to catch any of the porkers found roaming in the streets and throw them in a "Hog Pound". Hundreds of swine were apprehended and there owners had to pay fines for their release. A traditional English style Brown Ale, Hog Pound is a slightly sweet and mildly hopped with a smooth , pleasent flavor reminiscent of the Great Brown Ales from England.

Tried this again recently at the St. Louis Park location in MN. I liked it a little more. On tap at the brewpub. The body was medium brown with no head. The aroma was light toffee with some chocolate and sweet maple. The taste was toffee with some iced tea. The body was light with some woody character. This had no life and seemed filtered to hell.

Reddish-brown brew with a thin body. Light nuttiness and an OK flavor, but this just didn’t call out to me.

St. Louis Park, MN location. Dark brown color wtih no head. Very solid nut aroma, but with the alcoholic tint that seems to be common to brown ales. Slightly dry malt taste up front with what I believe is a chestnut taste. The alcohol is still there, but fades to the background. Tasty enough.

On tap at the brewpub. Extremely clear brown color with no head and no lacing. Nutty aroma, almost granola-like. Tongue-tingling for some reason other than alcohol content. Rich body. 15 IBUs.

Strong toasted maltiness, a light bit of fruit and some roasted nuttiness, with just an afterthought of coffee beans. Bittersweet flavor, mild to medium bodied mouthfeel, but very full and filling texture. Rich but smooth and enjoyable to drink.

Dark Brown Coloring with White Head. Toasted Nut Aroma. Medium Mouthfeel...Nice Balance of Malt and Hops, Toasted Nuts..With the Toasted and Sweet Malt Notes, It Actually is Reminiscent of Peanut Butter. Easiest of the Regulars to Sit Back and Enjoy.

Tap @ McCoy’s Public House. Copper color. White head. Flavor is great! Lots of toasted malts. Earthy finish. Some woody / pine hops. Nice fuggle character. Malt backbone is rich and built well. Notes of munich malts and a bit of chocolate. It is a bit light in color, expecting it to taste watered down. This beer delivers the flavor. Sweet biscuit aroma.
