| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 10/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 5/5 | 13/20 | May 19, 2004 Usually when I smell a beer, my olfactory senses are shot by the 3rd or 4th whiff. I could still smell the roasted malt/caramel sweetness of Hog Pound Brown at the 15th whiff. Why would I keep smelling the beer that many times you ask? Because the aroma is that good. Hazy tawny body with spare head. Flavor notes include brown sugar and vanilla. Medium bodied with average carbonation. Finish is long, sweetness moderate and bitterness only light (15 IBU). Features Fuggle and Northern Brewer hops. Technically a solid beer. Just doesn’t assert itself enough. To that end, perhaps a few more hops would help. Andbrewer (18), St. Joseph, Missouri, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Feb 25, 2009 Dark brown, slightly amber, small tan head. Aroma of malt and fairly sweet. Tastes nutty and of malt. Pleasent aftertaste. It is filtered nicely and drinks very smooth. Overall it was a lovely beer that I would most certainly drink again when visiting McCoy’s. For me one of the preferred beers they offer. MOboy (446), Kansas City, Missouri, USA

Very malty and somewhat thin. The aroma could be most assertive as well as the caramel and nut flavours. beastiefan2k (1605), Lawrence (formely NYC), Kansas, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Mar 21, 2009 Tap and cask @ the Foundry, bar next door to McCoy’s. The tap is a clean brown color with a disappearing head. Aroma is woody and nutty dark malts, light sweetness with a bit of hops at the end. There is a burning wood incense thang going on as well. Taste is stronger on the woodiness. The cask is more hoppy, obviously has a better head, which never fades. There is some coffee in there as well. It is much more quaffable than the tap. harlequinn (2745), Tacoma, Washington, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Aug 3, 2006 Strong toasted maltiness, a light bit of fruit and some roasted nuttiness, with just an afterthought of coffee beans. Bittersweet flavor, mild to medium bodied mouthfeel, but very full and filling texture. Rich but smooth and enjoyable to drink. hellomynameis (794), Mayer, Minnesota, USA

| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Mar 20, 2007 On draft at the brew pub. Of the three beers I had this night, this was my favorite. The biggest plus was that it had relatively more flavor than the other two (stout, common). A little too fizzy, but other than that a slightly average ale.
