On tap at McCoy’s in KC. Pours a cloudy, deep orange-amber body with a finger-width, creamy, beige head that dissipates slowly and leaves a good amount of streaky lacing. Aroma is sweeter pineapple, dense grapefruits, crystal malts, and a light caramel earth. The flavor is a medium oily bitterness up front with lots of pineapple and some earthy grapefruits. Medium crystal malt taste and a light caramel comes in at the end where a sharper pine needle bitterness lingers into a long aftertaste. Dry, oily, and thin bodied with a bit of a booze warmth. Overall, a really tasty DIPA. Well made with lots of oily bitterness. Solid and definitely well suited for a hop head.

Tap @ McCoy’s Public House. Light orange amber color. Aroma of bold honey. Some citrus hops. Flavor of candy, some hop flavored cotton candy. Very sweet with lots of hops. Bold bitterness. A good bit of citrus. Lots of sweetness. A good bit of honey in the finish. Very strong. Alcohol burn as it goes down. This beer is BIG TIME!

On tap at McCoy’s, Wednesday night, 8/26. Explained as 10% ABV double IPA. Also on tap (possibly for the first time ever?) was a cask-conditioned IPA which I also tasted but didn’t get enough of the details on it to start a new page. This was a great beer, orange amber in color with a sticky, luscious white head. Retention was very good and the sheeting down the tulip glass was amazing. Strong piney hop aroma and fresh citrus in the aroma. Flavor was excellent, a good balance of doughy malts (yeast) and a variety of fresh hops. Lasting sharp aftertaste.

5/2/09 Unretired??? On tap at the KC McCoys. Poured orange with a small off white head. Lots of grapefruity hops and sweet malt in the nose. Flavor is sweet malt, smacking citrus hops, and a hint of booze. Loved It.

On tap at the brewpub. WOW! What a nosefull! This has a big aroma of thick caramel malt. The hop aroma is of flowers and grapefruit. No visual difference between this and the Newcomb’s IPA. High alcohol from the high OG. Yessir, this is a Big Beer. Delicious.
