Commercial Description:
Despite the ban on women in the Union Army, Elizabeth Newcomb fought in the Civil War. Bill, as she was known, dressed as a man and saw combat in several battles. We have named our India Pale Ale after Elizabeth because its looks are deceiving. Although light in color, it is fully hopped with a bold, bitter taste. This beer is not for the rookie ale drinkers, and certainly would have been a favorite of Elizabeth’s.

Hazy Gold/Orange Coloring with White Head. Light Earthy Hop Aroma. Tastes Like a Nice English IPA...Flavors are Clean and Light... Nicely Rounded English Hops, Tad Grassy with a Medium Mouthfeel....Hops Come out a Bit Dry on the Aftertaste. Nothing Special, Just a Nice Well Rounded IPA.

Sampled in a standard old pint glass which displays a bright golden and orange hue topped by a fluffy head and very nice lace.
The aroma has a nice layer of grassy andlight piney hope, some grapefruit and clove, and healthy dose of biscuity malt.
The flavor profile is a solid bitterness supported by the pale malts, clean and simple which mades a fine drinking IPA. The finish is a tad peppery and astrengent. <sp> Overall, it is a good IPA and what is wrong with that?

St. Louis Park, MN location. Slightly hazy orange color with a medium head. A difficult to distinguish aroma, but it seemed a little like hops with a grass influence. Lots of bitterness, but of the earthy English vareity. Maybe Fuggles, but not Goldings. A little malt is there. Not bad at all.

Big citrus (orange and grapefruit) with some subtle malt sweetness. Copper orange with red and yellow highlights. White, clingy head. Very well balanced. Hops take the lead, but the malt holds its own. Probably the best beer available at any KC brewpub.

I was suprised at how sweet this beer was. Was expecting a bitter bite from start to finish, and while it had the finish and aftertaste the mouthfeel flavor was sweet. Definitly some citrus, some floral as well. It had some hops to it, but not a hopheads paradise exactly, I enjoyed it, and felt it was good although I cant put my finger on it but its not the best representation of an IPA.

This is a medium-dark amber beer witha nice citric aroma. This ale follows with the promised grapefruit hoppiness and medium body. Very good American-style IPA.

I guess I’m not sure what I’m supposed to be looking for in a lot of these beers, so my only option is to just try them and see how much I enjoy them. I read a lot of reviews from respected members here, and hear a lot of descriptions of the highest rated beers, and sometimes get confused. My friend’s dad, who is a wine steward, once told me, "If you like something, then it’s good". Well this beer came to me from a beer of the month club that my sister got me as a gift. I thought it was phenomenal stuff, and would recommend it to anyone looking for sharp hop flavor. If you’ve tried Bell’s Expedition Stout, Sprecher Black Bavarian, Dragon Stout or New Holland Ichabod Pumpkin Ale, I would put this right there in the list of beers which I felt needed no improvement.
