| 2.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 11/20 | Oct 28, 2006 Draught pint at the St Louis Park, MN location, October 8 2006. A thin wisp of nitro-head lasts atop the dark chocolate body....cocoa-anise aroma, like a dry flourless chocolate cake, lightly roasty....the body is fairly dull, starting out rather full and bitter-chocolaty but quickly thinning out and turning cardboardy, very bitter and chalky with little malty or fruity leavening....difficult to finish. heemer77 (4311), Savannah, Missouri, USA
| 2.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 10/20 | Dec 27, 2006 On tap at the brewpub, this was called Thompson’s Dry Stout. The body was black with a light brown head. The aroma was chocolate with some coffee and sweet potatoes. The taste was day old coffee with some hay and a little bit of apple core in the finish. This was another bland and boring McCoy’s beer. Braudog (3774), Dayton, Ohio, USA

Bitter nuttiness and light roasted tones, but a bit on the watery side. After an inviting appearance, this turned out average. badgerben (3605), Blaine, Minnesota, USA

The taste is on the light side, but has a bit of bitter chocolate. Not as full as I’d like, but a passable beer. Eyedrinkale (3209), Astoria, New York, USA

| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Mar 6, 2005 On tap at the brewpub. Nitrogen dispensed. 40 IBU’s. Faint roasted aroma. Tan head. Thick lacing. Good body, complex flavor. Peaty, smokey, smooth. The high hops add to the complexity. Good coffee flavor. Pronounced roasted malt at the end. Palate is smooth. | 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Feb 15, 2002 Wonderfully balanced, even with such a complex set of flavors. Fresh and aromatic. Roasty, toasty, rich, thick and robust. Not too heavy though. Great sweet vs. bitterness thing going on... and a little sourness too. Some chocolate and coffee hints really gave it the icing on the cake. WAY better than their Oatmeal Stout, which they also had at this time.
