beastiefan2k (1590), Lawrence (formely NYC), Kansas, USA Oct 31, 2009 Snifter @ the Foundry, bar next door to McCoy’s. This year’s batch was advertised as being 11%. Aroma is good prune and toast, strong and well melded. Some light tobacco and licorice balanced off by some cocoa. The cocoa and roast really come out as the beer warms up. Flavor has come plenty of alcohol, sweet sugary chocolate. The alcohol translates to licorice. The bright side is the thickness of the beer really masks any burn. It is a very viscous brew yet there is a bit of a spritz-y, mineral finish to balance it all out. That sugary-sweet-chocolate really gets me and its a big, strong, good Impy Stout. BeerandBlues2 (3201), Colorado Springs, Colorado, USA Oct 16, 2009 GABF 2009. Pours black with an average creamy dark brown head, somewhat lasting with good lacing. Aroma is heavy malt (molasses, chocolate, toffee), light hop (perfume), average yeast (leather) with notes of prune, date, wood, and smoke. Full bodied, creamy texture, average carbonation, and a bitter finish. Long duration, heavy sweetness, moderate acidity and bitterness. Rciesla (3500), Exit 15W, New Jersey, USA Oct 13, 2009 Draft at McCoys Brewpub or rather the location next door. Some girl knocked her beer all over Eugene then proceeded to come on to the both of us. Then Eugene got her kicked out, it was pretty awesome! Pours a black body with an off white head. Sweet chewy dark chocolate and dark fruit. Coco vanilla with a moderate roasted malt character. Chewy dark chocolate malts with a mild nutty finish. Great brew. Indra (2018), Prairie Village, Kansas, USA Dec 14, 2008 Draft at the brewpub. What a nice surprise to find McCoys first Imperial Stout on tonight. Silky sweet aroma of dark chocolate, licorice and prune, with loads of rich, roasty dark malts and lighter hints of black cherry, brown sugar, cream and earthiness. Opaque ebony color with a lasting, very fine, dark tan head. Flavor is likewise richly malty and sweet, roasty and estery, with plenty of semi-sweet chocolate and espresso throughout, a certain nearly tart fruitiness in the background, along with suggestions of dark berry and a notably spicy, peppery, moderately bitter and warming finish that shows some lingering black walnut. Semi-dry and exceedingly smooth on the palate, alcohol presence noted but not overwhelming, low in effervescence and an extremely thick body with a somewhat slick, oily, mouth-coating feel. Lingering creamy chocolate tones and dark fruits late. Rather impressive.
