The color is dark brown and the head has big bobbles, that quickly disappears. The aroma is sweet, slightly acidic with fruity notes. The flavour is sweet with notes of fruit, caramel and a slight bitterness in the finish. It has an almost vinous expression, but it lacks complexity and I’m disappointed.

From the bottle, this pours a beautiful burgundy colour with a creamy, off-white head. The nose is of sweet malts and tobacco. The body is quite full and the flavours boast caramel and a fruitcake-like quality. Really rather nice, with a pleasant bitter finish to counter the predominantly sweet profile.

Bottle from Tesco, Biceter, 16-12-07 Poured very dark brown with a tan head. I’ve had this beer many times but have noted a very slight sourness on first taste, despite this slight oddity it was still very artificially sweet, some dried fruit and just never tasted as good as I recalled, maybe it just isn’t the same as it was. Still I have a second bottle so I will try it again later, but merely an ok beer not the beer I remember.

Deep dark brown pour with red lights, creamy beige head leaving sticky lace down the glass. Sweetish, roasted malt, vinous hops. fruity, smooth and gently warming. Good stuff.

Pours a dark brown with hints of red through light. Minimal white head. Fruity and malty aroma. Taste is of grapes, malts, sweet and fruity. A bit mild for a scotch ale.
