Big beer pours dark, light tan head1 doesn’t strike me as a Barleywine more like a Wee Heavy! Nice aroma, breadiness, plums and prune goin’ on, sweet lingering finish! Very nice surprise!!

1. Bottle 04/09/2003 Amber coloured strong in alcohol with some fruit flavour. Slightly bitter lasting malt finish. 2. Bottle 24/01/2004 Mid to dark brown coloured and sweet on the palate. Strong alcohol gives a warming finish which is slightly bitter and full of malt. 3. Bottle 14/06/2004 Mid brown coloured with some alcohol present. Fruity flavour. Slightly bitter full malt finish.

Bottle: Deep reddish amber coloured, medium sized, creamy brownish head, very stable; malty and vinous (cherry) nose, also big fruity (raisins) aroma, caramel, also and a tinge of alcohol, too; malty, bitter flavour; longer, slightly sweetish fruity finish with distinctive chocolatey-bitter notes. A fine, well rounded and tasty Ale............

Smells like onions in gravy! Colour is darkish, nothing special. Very mouth filling and rich taste which lingers in the mouth. Very sweet compared to most beers, but not cloying at least to my taste, although the aftertaste is a little bitterer. Strong biscuity taste, seems like it would be great in pies. Bottle from Somerfield.

Bottle, Tesco. Alcohol seemed to get more noticeable as I drunk it. A bit too sweet for my liking. I can’t remember much else, though that’s more to blame on the ABV than the beer itself.

I do not get why champion, but it was really bitter for my taste, really thick and good colour, but the aftertaste isn’t nice.

This shows that the big brewers, in this case Scottish Courage, can brew great beer if they put their mind to it. Strong toffeeish taste. More on the sweet than on the bitter side, not much of hops that I can detect.

Bottle. Quite a straight forward strong scottish ale. Some sweet caramel, touches of dark fruit. Some alcohol showing in the end. The flavours mentioned are consistent throughout, but nothing really jumps out at you. Slightly warming finish.
