Nov 9, 2005 Clear brown beer with a fizzy white head that passes quickly. Mild aroma of sweet malts. Flavor is also malty with a bit of caramel, lightly roasty and nutty. Thin and watery. Whats there tastes good, but there is not enough of it. I was hoping for something more the caliber of their fabulous Scotch Ale. Its not bad for a summer refresher, light and enjoyable. If this were $5 a six pack it would be great for quaffing several in a session, but at import prices it falls short.

Nov 7, 2005 12oz. bottle. Orangey-auburn color, small rocky white head. Carbonized sugar and caramel in the aroma. Watery nose, which blooms into an overtoasted caramel flavor. Finish has residual toastiness and an emphemeral burnt note. Mouthfeel is light, somewhat watery.

Nov 6, 2005 This is more of brown ale than an IPA; hops certainly are not present. The bigger problem is, it’s not a very good brown ale either. Some caramel maltiness and dark brown color, but a flat body with virtually no head. Don’t bother with this one.

Nov 3, 2005 Beer looks great. Didn’t really get much IPA/Bitter kick. More like an over-burnt caramel leather jacket from the thrift store. Wasn’t a big fan of this one!

Oct 16, 2005 Certainly I agree with those who say it’s not what you think of when you think of an IPA. It lacks the strong bitter hops. But having said that this is still a good beer. The aroma a little like scotch with some wood and toasted malt. There are hops in the aroma too but not very much. The appearance is a light brown with a reddish tint. The head is small. The flavor is toasted malts, oak, caramel, and some bitter hops. Light earthy, bitter-sweet aftertaste. A little so-so but not a bad beer.

Oct 9, 2005 (12 oz bottle: Hi-Time Wine Cellars in Costa Mesa, CA) A somewhat flavorful, very toasty, moderately nutty, lightly bitter, and minimally sweet beer. Not something that is blowing me away, mostly because I’m not a fan of such a dry beer, but it’s still decent. Dry, nutty, very toasty aroma fits well. Light bodied, but very clean. Amber color with a slight brown tint and good clarity. Off-white head pours to a finger’s width, and though it settles to a ring, it leaves a fair amount of spiderweb lacing all over the glass. I’ve never been a big fan of this beer, and after today, I’m still not exactly a fan, but it’s certainly not terrible. Just not something I’m inclined to enjoy.
