Some caramel in the flavour, well rounded, perhaps a bit thin. Drinkable stuff that shouldn’t offend anyone. Rerate (can): I understand why this beer is classified as a Scottish Ale at RateBeer, instead of an IPA - hardly any hops are discernible at all. But the brewers insist on calling it an IPA, so I guess it should be rated as such. herbjones (742), Orange, California, USA

| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Oct 24, 2002 Caramelly and quite nice aroma and flavour. Very dark for a pale ale as everyone says. Is there any chance IPA’s used to be like this as the label implies? If so, what does a India Dark Ale look like? JCW (1262), Cincinnati, Ohio, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 5/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Oct 23, 2002 Even lightly hopped for an English IPA. Taste alot like a plain ale. Pretty good though. Ringo (959), Loveland, Colorado, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Oct 22, 2002 On draft. I’m not sure why the low ratings for this, I liked it. But it does not seem like an IPA, it has no hop bite, instead it seems malty. More like a brown ale. OlJuntan64 (1267), Perth, Australia
| 2.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 2/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 11/20 | Oct 21, 2002 Medium copper clear under a small short lasting head. Faint caramel and roasted malt with a hint of something sour (vinegar?) and some faint floral hops on glass swirl. Light thin body. Medium light hoppy bitter and unsweetened roasted malt flavours. Dry clean finish and mild hoppy aftertaste. OK but lacks definition. Hopistotle420 (1178), Amherst, Massachusetts, USA

| 2.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 3/10 | 2/5 | 8/20 | Sep 30, 2002 Updated: Feb 15, 2003Nice red-brownish in color, small white head that doesn't last, light flowery and malty aroma, mild sweet caramel flavors with a light hop presence. Watery and thin mouthfeel, decent crisp light finish, a weak even for an English IPA where are the hops? Very bland, taste kind of like a wet paper bag.I won't waste my money on this one.
