Strong malty aroma with hints of yeast and caramel. Smooth texture with bold flavors of malts and hops; has a sweet start and a slightly bitter finish. Very good "Wee Heavy". puboflyons (609), New Hampshire, USA

Pours an opaque dark mahogany-brown with a bit of beige head. Aroma of yeast, malts, and caramel. Decent mouth feel. Flavor is both sweet and bitter with a good mix of malts and yeast. Very flavorful actually and always one of my favorites. zathrus13 (1305), Mount Laurel, New Jersey, USA

Has a very nice aroma, smells like a combination of sweet caramel, cherries and cured tobacco leaves. Flavor is much of the same, seet malt with a fruit presence and a nice smoky finish. I just became a big fan of scotch ales. carruthm (1147), Seattle, Washington, USA

But this was not to my liking at all. Poured fine with a dark brown color and the aroma was fine with the malts expected but the taste was just dreadful. Honestly had trouble finishing 12 oz. Might have also had a bad bottle. chocolateyflow (15), Oxford, Mississippi, USA

McEwan’s Scotch Ale is delcious and comes highly recommended by me, so you know it must be good! I think that McEwan’s is the Log Cabin syrup of beers. Scratch that, Log Cabin is the McEwan’s of syrups. JonR888710 (999), Cochabamba, Bolivia
| 1.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 3/10 | 1/5 | 4/20 | Jul 3, 2008 Pours a mahogany black/brown with a light brown head. Smells lightly fresh, some hops and chocolate. Taste is super-sweet, sugary syrup, molasses Burnt flavors, roasted chocolate malt finish the flavor. Tastes like a sherry to me, way too sweet. This could be useful for sipping in 2-3oz portions, but drinking 12 oz is impossible. Terribly unbalanced, sweet beer. Had out of a 12 bottle purchased at Bailey’s Pub in Arlington, VA. joshiez (48), USA

I wanted something new, and I knew this would be a darker beer....but it doesn’t fill my mouth like other darks...it almost has a crisp taste...like a lager. Really crisp....Almost carbonated....but very sweet. You can taste and smell a caramel flavor immediately. I didn’t pick up on the chocolate, but there is sweetness here. I’m excited about this....the first glass went down smooth....I can’t wait to tap the other five!!
