An amazing tasting beer. Has caramael butterscotch aroma. Complex for this style. Malty as expected with a warm roastiness at 8%. This one just works well. I would love to sample a draught. kimcgolf (835), Dacula, Georgia, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Aug 10, 2006 Pours to a dark brown color with ornage tint, medium off-white head and okay lacing. Good aroma of chocalatey malt, with an over-riding smell of honey or molasses. Taste was a very good, honey-sweet flavor, but not syrupy like many thick bodied beers. As the beer warmed, the 8% alcohol made its presence known more, but not overwhelmingly. Finish was long and smooth. I really liked this beer. jon112981 (327), Chevy Chase, Maryland, USA
| 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 13/20 | Aug 7, 2006 Bottle. Very sweet and malty. Viurtually no hop smell or taste. A nutty aroma. Goes down easily but a little too sweet. swanmann (310), Norman, Oklahoma, USA
| 4.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Aug 5, 2006 Bottle pour into a "globe" glass (don’t know if they’re all called that). About quarter inch, very bright tan, dense foam. Highly malted alochol aroma. Thick burgundy scotch ale. Yum. BigBen2120 (688), Derry, New Hampshire, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Aug 2, 2006 Smells malty and caramelly. Dark brown body with intially one inch, but quickl dissipating to about a quarter inch tan head. Tastes sweet first and foremost, but not overpoweringly so as some Scotch ales can be. Slight smoke and alcohol tastes are also present. Rather good actually. I thought for sure that it would either taste too strong or unbalanced, but niether is really the case here. A pretty good ale, especially if you’re a fan of porters or brown ales. linkolnlogg (94), your home, Minnesota, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Aug 2, 2006 Pours out a dark brown-black with a perfect creamy tan head. Scent is oak, vanilla, caramel, and slight warm alcoholic note that combines into sweet and inviting. Taste is bold and creamy without being abrasive on the palate. Notes of coffee/toffee and vanilla and oak mix together beautifully. All of the elements of the brew mix together rather well making a lot of character and complexity but lacking slightly in the big body of a good ale... However this is balanced by the fact that the beer rides well like a fine scotch
