| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Nov 23, 2005 What a good beer this was. Aroma of plenty of fruit and that translated to the flavor as well. First taste was sweetly bitter and that remained steadfast through the glass. Raisen and over ripe apples reigned dominant. Very little carbonation and no head to speak of. I am ready for another one! Trev (887), Lakeville, Minnesota, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | Nov 19, 2005 From the bottle: Pours a dark brown/black (cola coloured) with mahogany tones when held to the light. A medium tan head fades to a thin top then a ring over about 10 min.
Aromas are sweet and fruity. (Pear and plum) Slight woodiness and some vinegary sourness as well (was my bottle close to turning cause I don’t remember that part...)
Flavours of oatmeal maltiness and dark cherry and raisin sweetness. Nutty roasted earthy taste with a clean finish. Well balanced alcohol. --
This was the first dark beer I ever had. (circa. 1995- Mucky Ones we called it.) mephisto (1144), Taiwan

| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Nov 15, 2005 Pours black with reddish hues and a fully receding tan head. Aroma is vinous with notes of peat malt, and dried plums. Taste is earthy and spicy, with dusty yeast and smoke. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with smooth carbonation. Pretty good, but not that unique. noelcb (271), Toledo, Ohio, USA
| 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Nov 14, 2005 Poured brown-black with a decent off-white head, some lacing. Aromas of hops, chocolate, coffee, alcohol, bread, roast malt and dark fruit. Flavor is full and well-balanced toasty malt and bitter hops. Some alcohol, and undertones of fruit and yeast. Excellent mouthfeel. Had my first McEwan’s in 1988, still one of the best. Miguel (1181), Saint-Ours, Quebec, Canada

| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | Nov 8, 2005 (Bottle) Thick khaki head atop dark chestnut brown body, pretty good lacing. Aroma of whisky and malty sweetness (so far, so good!). Mouthfeel smooth, very slightly syrupy. Wow, what a taste combo - I’m thinking fine Scotch combined with a good doppelbock or strong ale. Certainly wasn’t first time I’ve had this, but boy now I’m really appreciating it. Good, good, good.
