Head is initially average sized and quickly fades to a cover. Aroma is caramel, toffee and dark fruits. The flavor is caramel, raisins, prunes, some smokey notes. Nice, but a bit thin. Finish is sweet, average lenth. johnscheer (1), Austin, Texas, USA does not count | 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Nov 3, 2005 One of the best beers I’ve had in a long time. roasty caramel aroma, clear black, tan foam, medium sweetness, medium bitterness, medium body, oily feel, average carbonation, long finish. jerohen (1615), Bussum, Netherlands

Obviously aged aroma and flavour, fruity notes as well. Very smooth. I like this one. ABUSEDGOAT (1934), California, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Oct 18, 2005 Dark amber body with a very small head. Aroma is malty and smokey at first. Caramel comes out later and also faint hints of darker fruits. Flavor is the same, yet it feels relatively light bodied. Calling it watery would be unfair, but it definitely isn’t thick or complex. Still enjoyable. Magicdave6 (5558), London, Greater London, England

I love these scotch ales from belgium, never mind when they are aged for 20 or so years. Aroma is deeply aged oaky goodness. Taste is sweet oaked malty bad boy, what a beer, never expecte dsuch a thing from a scotish brewer, hence why it was or is made in belgium. caesar (3034), Bunnik/Utrecht, Netherlands

Very roasty and smoky flavor with hints of caramel, alcohol, malt and some peat moss. The taste is very smoky and malty with a nice sweet and caramelly finish. Very pleasant. dopplerted (8), Rochester, Minnesota, USA does not count | 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | Oct 4, 2005 I simply love this beer. From a bottle is has a thin, tan head with a smell of roasted malt and caramel. The color is dark brown/black, almost opaque. The initial taste is a sweet, caramel flavor with a hint of smokiness. The finish is surprisingly not as sweet, but a flavor of roasted malts and nuts. A very understated tastiness in this brew. I still haven’t found a better scotch ale.
