My first 2 oz sample looked a very thin brown color. When I ordered a pint, it was pretty much the same color. A light cola brown. But it was bursting with rich malt flavor and chocolate. Surprised the heck out of me. A nice beer. NYHarvey (2154), New York, New York, USA
| 2.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 9/20 | Jul 6, 2005 Dark Brown color. Thin fast fading head. Sweet roasted nut aroma. Roasted malts and more mild nuttiness in the flavor, but that is muted like they brewed the beer then just dumped water in it to "cut" the amount they had. Very watery finish like every beer I tried except the Hefe. BrockLanders (750), Panama City, Florida, USA

Nose is very much about roasty malts, with some hop evidence. Medium bodied, as this drink warms the choco-roasted nature comes through making it more enjoyable. Finish is adequately bitter. Maybe this one is a bit too thin, but enjoyable none-the-less. 00cobraR (1098), Greensboro, North Carolina, USA

What’s great about this one is that it pours a truly ruby color - very dark - but still ruby. The tast is certainly roasty, but it is also hoppy and rich with some caramel and maybe some of the red ale’s "raspberry" hops flavor. This is a good porter overall. ross (1709), weddington, South Carolina, USA
| 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Oct 31, 2004 not much more impressive then the irish red. the people pouring beer were not very friendly, and that agitated me. dark smells of chocolate. hmmm. sampled at brewgrass 04 on draught. notalush (2687), Denver, Colorado, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Aug 25, 2004 This is nearly identical to their stout in every way, aside from the thinner body - I wouldn’t say it’s simply a watered-down version of the stout, but there is a particular quality to the beer that makes it seem a little too thin for a porter - quite roasty, perhaps a bit more chocolate than the stout - good, but not as tasty as its bigger brother.
