Aroma has a nice roasted character with quite a carbonic gassy light sour tang to it; almost-burtn malt with light coffee and chocolate. Dark black, hard to tell if clear, with thin cocoa-colored lacing head. Medium watery body with some lactose. Medium carbonatoin. Starts with bitter chocolate and coffee, dry. Much less sweet than I’d expect for an oatmeal stout. Carbonic mild tang but not sour. Smoky notes but not overpowering. Licorice. Finish is dry, like tonic water with medium bitter roasty after. joeymacaroni (181), West Chester, Pennsylvania, USA

| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 14/20 | Jul 22, 2008 Had this at the Melvern brewpub. Nice big black pour but does not seem to be as viscous as many sweet stouts. Good roasty stout aroma. Very attractive. Nice initial stout flavors which is followed by a bitterness that reminds me of old wet partially burned campfire wood. Barely any carbonation can be detected, but it is there in its own creamy way. Best Mckenzie so far. Finish is lingering charcoal or something burned. ljbrisson (3), Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA does not count | 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 13/20 | Jul 21, 2008 Draught: McKenzie’s Brew House, Glenn Mills PA. Very dark brown colour. Head is about half an inch with good amount of lacing. Mouthfeel is heavy but loose, a little watery. The strong oaky, roasted coffee taste with some chocolate and a hint of anise seems to add a little weight. Medium-high alcohol content. This beer seems more suited to drink after a meal than with it due to its strong coffee flavor. sinkr (218), Lusby, Maryland, USA
| 2.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 3/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 10/20 | Mar 24, 2008 Draft->pint glass: Pours a medium, but lasting brow head atop of a black body with no carbonation, though it does exhibit excellent lacing. No real aroma and otherwise very Guinness-y. The taste is mildly sweet, medium body, and sticky and chalky on the mouth feel with a medium duration on the body. We found this brewery while tooling around Downingtown, PA-area and only had the opportunity to try this beer--not horrible, but definitely could be better. Ty5592 (1015), Lansdale, Pennsylvania, USA
