Too dry and roasty. Not thick enough. Not sweet. Anise in the finish. Tannic. Nope.

Pitch black body, small beige head. Strong notes of roasted coffee and oats as well as some bitter chocolate and a distinct tartness. Nothing special, but okay.

Kind of a thin looking dark brown body with a small brown lace. Chocolatey nose with a little roast. Flavor is dark chocolate, coffee, and a slight hop finish. Doesn’t even think of trying to hold a candle to the 5 Czars.

Rather thin stout that was oaky at the nose. On the palate the beer was alive with bubbles, something I didn’t expect.

Poured a dark brown, with some red tints around the edges, with a small, quickly diminishing light tan head that left very light lacing on the glass. Aroma of chocolate fudge, roast and toffee, not all that strong. Taste of roast and chocolate, with a light hoppiness. Overly carbonated mouthfeel.

On tap at brewpub. Reddish-black color, with beige head. Aroma is light, sweet, chocolate, a little roasty. Light in flavor, somewhat sweet. Very light bitterness, low carbonation. Relatively thin, not chewy. Dry finish.

Draft @ brewpub. Black color, somewhat of a head but nothing to speak of. Nice oat aroma and taste. Flavors blend nicely, tasted a bit more on the dry side than the sweet side, but oh well. Very solid brew indeed.
