Poured deep and dark amber color, almost brown, and a smaller sized off white head. Aromas of blackberries, blueberries, some chocolate, roast, and raisins. Tastes of blackberries, caramel, chocolate, lighter roast, and some dark fruits. Lively body. Some lacing left on the glass. I acutally kinda of dug this one. Medium sweet with an underlying tart berry finish. eaglefan538 (2362), Wilmington, Delaware, USA
| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 10/20 | Dec 7, 2008 Poured at the Glen Mills location, pretty expected color of an abbey dubbel: tawny murky brown - although it was dark, pretty sure not a bit of blue or black there - decent but not truly Belgian-esque head. The aroma was caramel, fruits - faint cherries could have been stronger - of raisins, light brown sugar, bready yeast, currants. The flavor followed the aroma, but unfortunately the blackberries and the base abbey were just not a great combination. Mouthfeel was a bit on the flat side, but body was full for a dubbel. A neat experience, but nothing I would seak out again.
