Commercial Description:
Belgian style farmhouse ale balances a bold, spicy yeast character with a dry hoppiness. A significant addition of malted rye adds further complexity without betraying the styles roots.

cloudy unfiltered brew, thought it was a bit dark for a saison. Seemed to have spices, coriander, grains of paradise(peppery?) added which I’m just not a fan of, but seemed to help this saison from when I tried it last. Body was good, Thought the spices overpowered hop bitterness too much. Overall, just a bit plain in taste, and I thought it was too sweet too. Shocked it won over Southhampton, which is one of the best. The GABF is just like football, "Any given Sunday"!!!

GABF2009 - my first saison of the evening - a very tangy and spicy saison, with some rustic grassy notes, lemony notes, and a distinct wheaty quality - the addition of rye adds a bit more heft than your average saison (this saison rue, with a little less body), and compliments the spices and lightly bitter hops really well - a decent saison, but I expected transcendence given this brewers reputation.

On tap in Glen Mills. Very solid aroma of spices, vanilla, lemon hops and banana. Clear yellow gold color, white head and a ring of carbonation around the glass. Flavor of banana, spices, and malt. This is the best beer I have had at McKenzies.

[2367-20090801] Bottle. Toasty yeast grass aroma has mild notes of wheat. Hazy, pale yellow with a medium-lasting foamy white head. Mild toasty grass flavour has lots of yeast and a little wheat. Medium body. Good saison.

750ml bottle shared at BCTC2009. Pours a nice light golden- slight haze and a fluffy white head- some lace. Aroma is nice floral hops, fresh bread, doughy grassy and hay notes, slight farmhouse- but not funky just fresh grain and hops- good clean spicy saison profile. Flavor is doughy clean fresh hay, bready pils, slight orange fruity esters, wheat and dough, with a green and floral fresh hoppiness. Clean dry refreshing finish- very nice Saison.

Bottle at BCTC 2009: Hazy bright golden with an off white dense film of head. Tart crisp aroma with some dry crackery malts, light citric notes and drier phenolic character of white pepper. Fluffy & crisp on the palate. Dry wheaty character in the flavor- light pale malt/bread crust charcter with a spicy yeast presence- nice white peppery phenols and a spicy noble hop presence in the finish. A nice Saison.

Bottle shared by Dickinsonbeer at BCTC. Floral, lemony, dry, but fusely aroma. Lemon, hay in the flavor, with some meaty notes in the finish. Kind of thin, bitter, and confused. Still not a bad effort.
