Tap at the brewpub. Deep brown-red beer with a very creamy tan head. The aroma is quite earthy and woody with a soft dark crackery maltiness. Quite clean smelling with a hint of sulfury yeastiness. Light herbal/spicy noble hop character on the back. Fairly assertive bitterness and clean yeast. Nice pint.

On tap at McNeill’s. Mild apple skins, bit of diacetyl. Neutral fruitiness and some mild sweetness. Light fruity hoppiness, with a bit of sour Flemish ale character. Medium dark amber orange, a bit of haze. Thin off-white lacing head. Medium heavy watery body with medium carbonation. Starts tangy with a hit of Flemish sour ale profile. Dry bitter nutty finish over the apple-tang caramel malts. Good fruity bitter hops at the finish, with lasting fruitiness into the after. Doesn’t really taste like an Altbier from Düsseldorf, but is a decent session beer. Woody.

Pours hazy amber ruby colored with 1-finger off-white head. Aroma of caramel malt, brown sugar and figs, toffee, some almond. Tastes caramel malty, on the sweet side, with finishing hops, more brown sugar, and a very rich, complex, well balanced palate.

Pour is deep warm hazy amber with a thin tan head...smell is slightly sweet with caramel and toffee and some nice strong floral hop notes...taste is strangely astringent....strongly and well hopped and some nice sweet malty dough notes...just somehow astringently tart...

660ml bottle, hazy amber hue, with a frothy beige head, leaving laces, toasted malt, yeasty, cookie dough, toffee note, caramelized malt accent, flowery hops note in the aroma follows through on a medium-bodied palate with a yeasty, sweet toasted malt character, with a toffeish accent, brown sugar, cookie dough, grainy cereals, floral hops, leading towards a hops bittering finish.

From bomber. Pours a murky orange brwon with minimal off white head. Sourish malt nose and flavor, with a slight hop aftertaste. Hints of nuts and rising bread flavors.

Bomber courtesy of Muzzlehatch. Pours murky caramel brown with nice half inch white head. Aroma of brown sugar, raisens, bread. Initial flavor starts off well, with a sweet nuttiness balanced by some spicy hops. The bitter finish was very medicinal with some oxidation creeping in. The bottle was either past its prime are one of the victims of the rumored bottling problems with McNeills. So take this rating with a grain of salt. I suspect that this is really good fresh and on tap at the brewpub.
