Aroma is mild and of a slight roast and gentle but present hoppiness. Flavor is malty, a slight roast, and a moderate grassy somewhat earthy hoppiness. Excellent session beer. Pours with little head, deep copper color, a little hazy. Very sweet upfront but nice hop balance without being too bitter. However the bitterness does linger for quite some time. Fantastic. Cheers! | 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Mar 11, 2005 Brown color with a hint of copper coming out on the edges. Lid of dark cream bubbles. A hoppy version from the aroma. Toasty nut bread with a backdrop of light fruit and floral hops. Very balanced in that it is hard to pick out components, they all are there working together. German chocolate, with herbal, slightly grassy hops. If one fault the malt does not carry all the way out to the finish. I really must get back to Düsseldorf. Thanks Barry for the memories. | 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Jan 22, 2005 Not my favorite style and this doesn’t make me like it even more. This stuff is just way to sweet with some caramel, honey, nuts, and some light orange zest. tiggmtl (4311), Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Dec 7, 2004 Strong hop nose with decent balancing malts. Brown-amber colour with shy but lasting white head. Some lacing. Citrus-orange hop flavour with some sweet malt and fairly assertive bitterness. Neutral mouthfeel. Fine-bubbled. Bottle enjoyed with MartinT, muzzlehatch and Rastacouere. Dorwart (1814), Robbinsville, New Jersey, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Dec 6, 2004 Thin frothy head of fine bubbles reduces slowly. Decent lacing. Sharp bitterness in the aroma with hops, parchment paper and some roasted malts. Color is a very nice dark orange brown. Flavor is roasty with a distinct coffee flavor and good bitterness. Some carbon/burnt flavors also. Light to medium bodied. Finish is dry, bitter and roasty with a clean finish. A decent altbier. Rastacouere (5553), Montréal, Quebec, Canada
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Dec 5, 2004 Dark brown, light off-white head is rather small. Very hoppy nose, piney, green, citrusy and earthy. I can’t seem to find much else though. Salty hoppiness all the way through, lightly tart. Probably a bit too much for me and it makes it hard to analyze to have all those hops masking the rest. I feel the malt, but don’t taste it or is that a roasty hint in the finish? Light carbonation, comfortable light-medium body keeps me wishing for more.
