Aroma shows chocolate, hops, bread crust, nuts - just want you want in an alt, really. Chocolate malt leads to cocoa, bitter hoppiness, leaves, and earth. Light smokiness a sly wink at the blue haze that makes Zum Uerige one of the most toxic pubs I've ever set foot in? DJMonarch (6941), Northwich, Cheshire, England

Very hoppy nose, piney, green, citrusy and earthy. I can’t seem to find much else though. Salty hoppiness all the way through, lightly tart. Probably a bit too much for me and it makes it hard to analyze to have all those hops masking the rest. I feel the malt, but don’t taste it or is that a roasty hint in the finish? Light carbonation, comfortable light-medium body keeps me wishing for more. CaptainCougar (5544), Rockville, Maryland, USA

Almost tastes more like a hoppy amber than an altbier. Finishes dry and bitter, but with some light chocolate notes. Pleasant fresh hoppy body has a touch of sourness, but goes down smooth. Not quite to style, but an enjoyable brew. MartinT (5080), Montreal, Quebec, Canada

The aroma is quite earthy and woody with a soft dark crackery maltiness. Quite clean smelling with a hint of sulfury yeastiness. Light herbal/spicy noble hop character on the back. Fairly assertive bitterness and clean yeast. Nice pint. JPDIPSO (4944), Wauwatosa, Wisconsin, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Mar 11, 2005 Brown color with a hint of copper coming out on the edges. Lid of dark cream bubbles. A hoppy version from the aroma. Toasty nut bread with a backdrop of light fruit and floral hops. Very balanced in that it is hard to pick out components, they all are there working together. German chocolate, with herbal, slightly grassy hops. If one fault the malt does not carry all the way out to the finish. I really must get back to Düsseldorf. Thanks Barry for the memories.
