Commercial Description:
Made in the style of the four breweries of the Altstadt in Dusseldorf, Germany. Slowly fermented, aged cold, and never filtered, this bitter brown ale was made from the finest German barley malt and hops. Ein Prosit!

My favorite McNeills beer. They even had double alt beer once.

Pours reddish brown, only slightly lighter than their brown ale. Wonderful roasty aroma. Chocolatey. Flavor is lightly roasty, with chocolate and nuttiness. Body is fairly light, with excellent small bubble carbonation. What a wonderful beer. My favorite from these guys so far.

Light amber colour, perfumy aroma, slightly malt balanced flavour with the perfect amount of hops. This beer is damn smooth, with hop flavours lingering on the finish. Along with Alaskan Amber this is one of the best American brewed alts that I have tasted.

Bitter tangy malt, very earthy, not much fruitiness. Lovely leathery mustiness. Some real iron/blood type noble hop action. Served quite warm after it's near freezing experience, this is best in style for me along with a couple of other mcNeill's. Avoids sweetness at all costs. - alright, as the cougar say, some light choclate, I agree. Biiterly lovely.

On draught at McNeill’s, 8/26/2005. Smells of faint yeast, light flowery, heathery hops. Faint whiff of caramel/toffee. Mildly hazy, muddy amber with a light auburn hue. Well-retained, but small head is creamy and off white. YES! Hops and malt explode at first sip; both very balanced and very flavorful. Dry yeast is apparent and adds complexity. Begins with a floral, fresh, green hops flavor, lightly bitter. Hints of roast and a touch of chocolate through the middle, with plenty of toffee. Perfect carbonation and mouthfeel. Light fruitiness in the middle and some graham crackers and honey on the end. VERY drinkable. Good lacing on the glass. Bitterness lingers.

On draft in VT: Copper amber hue. Inviting caramel roasted grain nose. Tastes of toffee, fruit, awesome hop presence. These guys are just incredible.

Pours hazy amber ruby colored with 1-finger off-white head. Aroma of caramel malt, brown sugar and figs, toffee, some almond. Tastes caramel malty, on the sweet side, with finishing hops, more brown sugar, and a very rich, complex, well balanced palate.
