Bitter roasted coffee beans and chocolate malt with a sweet finish. Lots of hops in final. Rich and complex bodied. Alcohol well camouflaged by all this malt. Beautiful. | 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Dec 5, 2004 Bottle - Pours very black and thick with almost no carbonation, head or lacing. Could use a bit more bubbles. Aroma is heavy of roasted malt, chocolate and piney hops. Flavor is very heavy of roasted and black patent malt with a strong mix of coffee/expresso. Some malty sweetness lingers on the toungue while it is in your mouth, but disappears as you swallow this nector. Hop bitterness is relatively intense and the bitterness lingers for quite a while. Alcohol, while not immediately apparent, sneaks up on you. This is realy good stuff! Good thing I have another bottle... Crosling (1854), Loveland, Colorado, USA
| 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Dec 3, 2004 Deep black. Smells like a chocolate forest, that rains toffee, with hints of wood (tree branches), chocolate (leaves), cocoa (dirt) and resinous, magical sprouting buds. But the fat of the land is the massive array of coffee beans. Sugary, chocolatey, coffee bean, licorice, anise, expresso, cocoa, brownie battered resionous hop vines and leather notes. Coating mouthfeel. High hop level and great hop burps but the hop level does not distract the incredible malt flavor. Tasty. TheBeerGod (3163), Newport News, Virginia, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Dec 3, 2004 Had this after the DC/MD/VA/WV/PA gathering. Bottle courtesy of BuckNaked. Black body. Nice coffee, hops, and dark chcolate aroma. Taste is more dark chocolate, hops, coffee, light anise, and dark fruit. Some slight alcohol warming on this creamy but oily beast. More alcohol, chocolate and coffee round-off the finish. Good stuff! jeffin7 (610), Silver Spring, Maryland, USA

Aroma is of rich coffee, chocolate, and dark fruit. Flavor is of bitter chocolate, coffee, biscuit, and dark fruits (raspberries, cherries, raisins, plums etc). After taste is a long rich mocha. One of the best imperial stout I have had to date. omhper (12246), Stockholm, Sweden

| 4.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Nov 14, 2004 Thanks to Muzzlehatch for the trade! 22 oz bomber. Almost jet black with a tan head. Massive aroma of roasted malt and sharp American (Chinook?) hops, sort of like Arrogant Bastard. Big bold roasted malty flavor with hops all over the place. Excellent Impy stout and one of the best out there.
