Moderately hazy golden color with a small white head and nice lacing. Very roasty and toasty with a mild bitterness to finish. Slight lemons come through in the start as it warms. I like this. The ghetto labels on the McNeills beers really piss me off, though. ChazyRPh (571), Chazy, New York, USA

Aroma is negligable some maltiness. Bitter to start, reminiscent of grapefruit. Crisp, light and easy to drink. This is my first Kolsch, and it seems simple to me. Easy drinking solid brew. Very light carbonation in my bottle, light body, crisp, watery mouthfeel. Aroma is subtle - flowers, toffee, horse blanket, peat-like earth. Taste is crisp, refreshing, and also light. Notes of earth, lemon, hops, dough, hay. This is a damn nice beer. I probably wouldn’t have appreciated the degree of subtleness to this beer and style when I first got into beer. Big is not always better, sometimes it can be just as good to enjoy a simpler, laid back beer. Probably more difficult to brew too. dirtymike (2018), Manchester, New Hampshire, USA

| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jun 17, 2004 Hazy gold color with smallish head (shared bomber) so maybe the pour wasn’t so good. The taste is what stood out though. Not my favorite of styles but this was very good. I think McNeills is awesome because he hops up everything he makes. That makes this quite enjoyable. egajdzis (3638), Spring Mount, Pennsylvania, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Jun 14, 2004 Poured a cloudy pinkish gold with a small white head, with big bubbles and light lacing. Lemony malt, dry earthy nose. God damn thats a nice Kölsch! Very subtle in every way, hops, tart citrus, doughy, dry finish... simply awesome. Quite refreshing. canary dog (443), Rutland, Vermont, USA
